Cancel or delete stuck print job for printing


Printing documents can be annoying if print document request don’t excute and get stuck. Usually, when print job is stuck and you send more print commands – they keep pilling up. There are number of steps you can perform to cancel or delet stuck print jobs.

Steps to cancel / delete print jobs

1. Open the print job window from system clock area. It will show all stuck print jobs along with respective ‘stuck’ status. Right click on each print job and click on cancel option.

2. If print job is still stuck, turn your printer OFF. Turn ON the printer after few seconds, print job should be cancelled by then.

3. If print jobs are still stuck, try to cancel all print jobs at once. Click on start > run. Then type control printers and click on OK. Right click on printer icon and click open – then click Cancel All Documents on the Printer menu.

4. Stop and start print spooler service to cancel stuck print job. For this you need to create a command file. Copy following lines of command in a notepad file and name it DeletePrintJobs.cmd

net stop spooler
del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.shd
del %systemroot%\system32\spool\printers\*.spl
net start spooler


Newly created file will have a unique icon with solid window shape and screw wheel in the middle. Double click on the command file and you will see print spooler being stopped message on black screen. This should fix issue at hand.
