IP address stands for Internet Protocol address. It is a unique number that identify your computer on the internet. Every computer connected to internet have different public IP address for identification and hassle free connectivity to internet. IP address is composed of sequence of numbers like (for IPv4) or 2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:8:1 (for IPv6).

Use Google Search to find public IP address

1. You can easily find current public IP address being used for your internet connectivity. This can be done by using simple “What is my IP” query on Google Search. Open Google Search website at Google.com on your computer.

2. Then type what is my ip in the search box and press the Enter key. You should see your IP address in the format “Your public IP address is 122.1XX.3X.1” at the top part of Google Search result page.

Technically, once you use the above query, Google will reply by displaying your IP address from which query was received. Under normal network configuration you should get correct IP address information. However, if proxy server configuration is set on the network – the displayed IP address may be different from actual IP address. [via GOS blog]
